Personal Profile

Marty is a Licensed Professional Counselor, speaker and author. After studying both the Bible and conventional psychology, Marty recognized that God's plan for our strength and sufficiency to live the abundant life Christ promises is rooted in a greater understanding and personal appropriation of God's love for us as individuals. Her passion is teaching people that no matter what struggles they face in life, no matter what pain they bear, there is hope and wholeness available to them through the healing, transforming power of God's love. One of her books, The Greater Healing, provides a "road map" for the journey from brokenness to joy through God's love.

Marty had a Christian counseling practice for 18 years and has been speaking at retreats, conferences, banquets, etc. for 15 years. In June 2003 God called Marty from her profession as a Christian counselor into a full-time Christian ministry, Exceedingly More Ministries. This ministry includes her speaking and writing ministries.

Marty is co-founder of Celebration, a women's ministry in her denomination. She was the favorite substitute teacher of Beth Moore's Sunday school class. In the fall of 2003 she was the speaker for The Texas Conference of the United Methodist Church Pastors' Spouses Retreat and returned again in 2007.

Marty and her husband, Nick, a pastor, live in Lufkin, Texas. They have two grown children, Meredith and Kent. Meredith is a youth director in Longview, Texas and Kent is a lobbyist in Washington, D.C.

You will see the joy of the Lord in her and will be blessed by the message God speaks through her.

MINISTRY STATEMENT

The purpose of Exceedingly More Ministries is to witness through teaching Biblical truth (John 8:32), sharing personal testimonies (Revelation 12:11) and powerful, effective prayer (James 5:13-16) to the healing, transforming, restoring, victorious power of Jesus Christ "who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think..." (Ephesians 3:20)

STATEMENT OF FAITH

THE BIBLE

We believe the Bible is the divinely inspired authoritative Word of God. We believe it is the absolute true Word of God. We believe it is applicable for our lives today in determining and directing Christian faith and practice.

"All Scripture is God breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness."

        (II Timothy 3:16)

"For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing

soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart." (Hebrews 4:12)

THE TRINITY

We believe there is one God, eternally present in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

"As soon as Jesus was baptized, he went up out of the water. At that moment heaven was opened,

and he  saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and lighting on him. And a voice from heaven said,

'This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.'" (Matthew 3:16-17)

"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in

the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made.

In him was life, and that life was the light of men." (John 1:1-4)

GOD

We believe God is our heavenly Father and the Creator of heaven and earth and all that is in them. We believe God created man/woman for His glory.

"In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. (Genesis 1:1)

everyone who is called by my name whom I created for my glory, whom I formed and made." (Isaiah 43:7)

"...the people I formed for myself that they may proclaim my praise." (Isaiah 43:21)

JESUS

We believe in the deity of our Lord Jesus Christ, in His virgin birth, in His sinless life, in His miracles, in His vicarious and atoning death through His shed blood, in His bodily resurrection, in His ascension to the right hand of the Father, and in His personal return in power and glory.

"For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form." (Colossians 2:9)

This is how the birth of Jesus Christ came about: His mother Mary was pledged to be married to Joseph,

but before they came together, she was found to be with child through the Holy Spirit." (Matthew 1:18)

"He committed no sin, and no deceit was found in his mouth." (I Peter 2:22)

"In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of

         God's grace." (Ephesians 1:7)

For what I received I passed on the you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to

the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures,

and that he appeared to Peter, and then to the Twelve." (I Corinthians 15:3)

"while we wait for the blessed hope - the glorious appearing of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ." (Titus 2:13)

THE HOLY SPIRIT

We believe in the Spirit-filled life. The Holy Spirit indwells, sanctifies, instructs, empowers Christians for service, and seals them unto the day of redemption.

"And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the

dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit, who lives in you." (Romans 8:11)

"But when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of righteous

things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal

by the Holy Spirit..." (Titus 3:4-5)

"And you also were included in Christ when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of salvation.

Having believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit

guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God's possession - to the

praise of his glory."  (Ephesians 1:13-14)

SALVATION

We believe the salvation of man/woman, who is sinful and lost, is by faith in God's grace on the basis of the redeeming work of Jesus Christ's shed blood and not on the basis of human merit or works.

"This righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference,

for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified freely by his grace through the

redemption that came by Christ Jesus. God presented him as a sacrifice of atonement, through faith

        in his blood." (Romans 3:22-25)

"Salvation is found in no one else for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we

        must be saved." (Acts 4:12)

"For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith - and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God -

not by works, so that no one can boast." (Ephesians 2:8-9)

THE CHURCH

We believe the Church is the Body of Christ, both universal and local, to which all true believers belong.

"Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it." (I Corinthians 12:27)
